University Dance Company
About
The University Dance Company is a pre-professional performance ensemble, accepting members by audition only. Students rehearse approximately four hours a week per piece for three months prior to the performance dates. Dancers typically perform in the Crafton-Preyer Theatre in Murphy Hall near the end of each semester. University Dance Company concerts feature choreography by faculty members and guest artists in hip-hop, modern, ballet, jazz, tap, flamenco, and/or other dance forms. Occasionally, outstanding student choreography is featured in the program.
Any KU student can audition for the company. If accepted to the company, students must enroll in at least one dance technique class of any level for the semester. Company members are also required to enroll in DANC 320, the course for University Dance Company, that may be taken for credit or no credit.
Meeting times are set by choreographers and meetings to occur weekly or biweekly and include both in-person meetings and virtual meetings if deemed necessary. Rehearsals and meetings meet in Robinson room 240, the Sherbon Blackbox Theatre. Dance.ku.edu is a great resource for more information.
