Students United for Reproductive and Gender Equity (SURGE)
About
Students United for Reproductive & Gender Equity (SURGE), KU's feminist student organization, advocates for reproductive justice, abortion positivity, gender equity, and comprehensive sex-positive education for people of all genders, races, sexualities, and backgrounds at KU and beyond.
SURGE approaches activism using a reproductive justice framework.
SisterSong: Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective defines reproductive justice as "the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities."
SURGE is a campus-based chapter of Unite for Reproductive & Gender Equity (URGE).
URGE envisions a liberated world where we can live with justice, love freely, express our gender and sexuality, and define and create families of our choosing.
URGE builds power and sustains a young people’s movement for reproductive justice by centering the leadership of young people of color who are women, queer, trans, nonbinary, and people of low-income.
