About
The KU Tae-Kwon-Do club aims to provide the students and faculty of KU with a well-rounded martial arts curriculum. Tae-Kwon-Do originated in Korea during the 1940's, placing an emphasis on speed, foot techniques, and self-defense. Today, two main styles of Tae-Kwon-Do exist: ITF and WTF. Our club incorporates elements from both styles, as we welcome students from both backgrounds. We also welcome students from other martial arts disciplines as well as students who have no prior experience whatsoever!
During a regular class, students will develop their martial arts and fitness abilities through a variety of methods including (but certainly not limited to) floor exercises, kickpads, partner drills, heavy bag work, and sparring. Students will also practice various self-defense or "street" techniques derived from the more traditional Tae-Kwon-Do practiced in class.
The KU Tae-Kwon-Do Club is a team of dedicated martial artists who aim to better ourselves and everyone around us. Although we train hard, egos and grudges have no place in our club. We're not looking to prove anything or put others down, only to work hard and have fun doing it. Whether you're a black belt or a first-time martial artist, we'll do whatever we can to help you improve! To get started, just drop by the Martial Arts Room (Room 123) at the Rec! Class times are below!
If you are interested in sparring, the following gear is required: foot/shin pads, hand/forearm pads or MMA style gloves, mouthguard, headgear (available in class)
Some gear is available in class, however contact sparring is certainly not required!
