Association for Water and Environment
About
AWE is a student chapter of AWWA (American Water Works Association), dedicated to managing and treating drinking water, and WEF (Water Environmental Federation), which focuses on wastewater. AWE provides opportunities for students to learn about relevant water issues in Kansas and the US through speakers from various professional companies such as Burns & McDonnell, Black & Veatch, CDM Smith, etc. Students can get involved in any of our various outreach events like Engineering Expo, Boy & Girl Scouts Water Badge, and the Topeka Science Fair. In addition, AWE organizes a design team made up of students interested in competing with other universities across the nation at WEFTEC, the world’s largest annual water quality technical conference and exhibition. This conference provides extensive educational opportunities and unparalleled access to the field’s most cutting-edge technologies and services. The student design competition is an opportunity for our students to present at the conference and network with the top water professionals in the world. AWE is open to any and all undergraduate and graduate students interested in water and environmental issues; participation in the design competition is optional.
