Parent Organization: Student Involvement & Leadership Center
Jayhawk Health Initiative is a program that aims to provide experiential learning opportunities for Pre-Health students in order to enhance their undergraduate education. Last year, students participated in a Medical Brigade to Panama through Global Brigades. Global Brigades is the world’s largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. The mission of Medical Brigades is to provide students with the opportunity to work with medical professionals and community members to provide comprehensive health services in rural areas of Panama, Honduras, and Ghana that have limited access to healthcare. Students were able to take vital signs, triage patients, actively participate during patient intake, shadow physicians during consultation, work in the pharmacy, and conduct public health workshops to teach preventative medicine practices to community members.
