Best Buddies
About
The KU Chapter of Best Buddies is a subset of the greater, international nonprofit organization (Best Buddies). The mission of Best Buddies is dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
As a college chapter, our specific goal is to help foster friendships between college students and adults in the community with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We host events each month for students and buddies to connect and engage with others. A few examples of events in the past are game night, a bowling outing, an ice cream social, karaoke night, a talent show, prom, and a picnic/field day. Our students find memories from the events to be fulfilling and buddies look back with joy--it's amazing to see how a single friendship can impact the student and buddy.
