University of Kansas ASHRAE Student Branch will be attending the annual 2017 ASHRAE Winter Conference and Expo in Las Vegas, NV. from Jan 28-30, 2017. They will spend Saturday and Sunday at the annual conference attending seminars, presentations, workshops, and student programs learning more about current and future plans for the advancement of Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC&R) engineering design, and related issues such as indoor air quality, etc. There are eight tracks that cover a wide variety of engineering related issues for the building industry, allowing further education in your area of interest. They are:
- Fundamentals and Applications
- HVAC&R Systems and Equipment
- Water-Energy Nexus
- Commercial and Industrial Indoor Air Quality
- Mission Critical Design and Operation
- Effects of Climate Change on HVAC&R
- Energy Efficient Industrial Buildings
- Building Operation and Performance
After their weekend at the annual conference, the club will then spend Monday, Jan. 30 at the International Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Exposition (AHR Expo). The AHR Expo is the world’s largest HVAC&R marketplace with more than 2,000 exhibits, and 60,000 industrial professionals from over a 150 different countries. The Expo provides a great opportunity to learn more about the products that actually runs the HVAC&R industry, and to network with those product suppliers. In previous years the KU ASHRAE members attending the Expo have found that the exhibitors have actually welcomed the opportunity to talk to students and answer their questions about the equipment that they are exhibiting. This provides a great opportunity for participating students to learn more about the pros and cons of equipment that they will be working with in their specific fields.
KU ASHRAE members that are attending will fly from KCI to Las Vegas, Saturday morning, and return Monday evening. Traditionally, the club has sought and obtained funds for travel, logging, and meals for participating students in order to provide this opportunity to any interested, and active KU ASHRAE member. Any University of Kansas student that is interested in HVAC&R is encouraged to join the KU AHSRAE Student Branch.
