About
ASHRAE (the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) is a diverse organization representing building system design and industrial processes professionals around the world. Its mission is to advance the arts and sciences of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) to serve humanity and promote a sustainable world. The University of Kansas ASHRAE Student Branch, founded in 1988, hosts professional speakers, organizes technical tours, and provides opportunities to network with industry leaders. It also gives newer students chances to meet and learn from others in their degree programs who are going into this field. Membership is open to any KU undergraduate or graduate student interested in HVAC&R and related fields such as indoor air quality, solar energy design, energy management, and sustainability.
Though not required to attend most KU ASHRAE events, official student membership in the international organization ("The Society") as a Student Member provides:
• Access to certain ASHRAE publications online
• Discounts on other publications such as the ASHRAE Handbook
• Highly discounted Annual & Winter Meeting and AHR Expo registration
• Scholarship Opportunities
• Grant Opportunities
• Annual Student Design Competition
